Status: In Progress — Fall 2026

3 Graduate Credit Hours · Texas Tech University

Internship Overview

Organization: New Tech Global Environmental
Internship Role: Acting Project Manager
Site Supervisor: Gordon Banks, Vice President
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Deborah Carr
Internship Period: August 23–December 2026
Schedule: Approximately 15 internship hours per week

My professional internship with New Tech Global Environmental provides an opportunity to apply graduate-level knowledge of environmental sustainability and natural resource management through environmental project coordination, technical analysis, and leadership.

In my internship role as Acting Project Manager, I coordinate activities involving four project teams, environmental due diligence across more than 200 sites in multiple states, and work associated with approximately 2,000 soil samples across environmental projects.

My responsibilities include preparing ArcGIS project maps, organizing laboratory analytical results in Excel, comparing environmental data with applicable state regulatory criteria, and contributing recommendations concerning the need for additional environmental testing.

I also support project scheduling, budget management, team coordination, and communication to assist environmental projects in meeting their technical and organizational objectives.

Internship Project Responsibilities

My internship focuses on environmental project management, multi-state due diligence, and technical leadership at New Tech Global Environmental.

Project Leadership and Coordination

I provide leadership and coordination across four environmental project teams, assisting with work assignments, scheduling, communication, and project budgets.

Environmental Due Diligence

I participate in coordinating environmental due diligence activities involving more than 200 sites across multiple states. This work includes reviewing available environmental information and contributing recommendations about whether additional environmental testing is warranted.

Laboratory Data Management and Regulatory Review

I support environmental investigations involving approximately 2,000 soil samples across projects. My responsibilities include retrieving laboratory analytical reports, organizing analytical results in Microsoft Excel, and comparing reported values with applicable state regulatory criteria to support environmental evaluations.

GIS Mapping and Project Documentation

I prepare environmental project maps using ArcGIS and organize technical information to support project planning, reporting, and communication among team members.

Budget Management and Professional Leadership

I help monitor project budgets and coordinate activities to support timely, technically sound project completion while balancing environmental responsibilities with operational and financial constraints.

Connection to Graduate Coursework

My BIOL 5000 Professional Internship provides an opportunity to apply knowledge developed throughout my Professional Science Master's program in Environmental Sustainability and Natural Resources Management at Texas Tech University.

BIOL 6360 — Environmental Sustainability

This course provides a foundation for considering environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic feasibility together. These principles guide my approach to environmental project planning and decision-making.

AAEC 5314 — Environmental Economics and Policy

The economic and policy concepts from this course connect directly to project budgeting, regulatory considerations, and evaluating environmental decisions within operational and financial constraints.

BIOL 5309 — Advanced Ecology

Advanced Ecology supports my understanding of environmental processes, soil conditions, and ecological relationships when reviewing site information and determining whether further investigation may be warranted.

NRM 5312 — Ecology of Renewable Natural Resources

This course provides a framework for evaluating how environmental conditions and human activities influence natural resources and long-term ecological sustainability.

NRM 5320 — Natural Resource Biopolitics

Natural Resource Biopolitics strengthens my understanding of how regulatory frameworks, institutions, and competing stakeholder interests influence natural resource management decisions.

Connection to the Three Pillars of Sustainability

Environmental Sustainability

Through environmental due diligence, review of laboratory analytical results, and recommendations concerning additional testing, my internship supports informed decisions about environmental risks and the protection of natural resources.

Social Sustainability

Leading project teams, coordinating field activities, and communicating environmental findings require collaboration, professional responsibility, and consideration of how environmental decisions may affect communities.

Economic Sustainability

Managing project budgets, coordinating schedules, and evaluating the need for additional investigations help balance environmental protection with the efficient use of financial and organizational resources.

Professional Reflection

This internship is strengthening my ability to integrate environmental science with project management and leadership. Working across multiple projects requires me to consider technical evidence, regulatory requirements, project budgets, and team coordination when developing practical recommendations.

The experience demonstrates how the three pillars of sustainability operate together in professional environmental management. Environmental decisions must be scientifically defensible, socially responsible, and economically feasible.
